Teeth Whitening

Teeth are stained by the foods and drinks we consume. Smoking further stains teeth and the natural bright, white shade becomes darkened. Teeth whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and with the type of bleaching process chosen.

Enlighten teeth whitening works by increasing the tooth's permeability to oxygen which breaks down stain molecules. It is a combination treatment meaning that there is a 2 week home treatment followed by a 1 hour visit at the dentist. Visit the Enlighten website for online presentation.

Our Office 1-hour power whitening can whiten teeth by up to several shades, brightening your teeth dramatically to its natural shade. Your lips and gums are covered and a gel is applied to your teeth. A special light is positioned over your teeth to activate the gel, which gently penetrates your teeth, breaking up stains and discolouration. Whiter, brighter teeth in less than an hour!

Tooth Coloured Restorations

Traditionally, fillings in back teeth are made from silver amalgam, which has a grey metal appearance. Although it is very tough, it can look unsightly and may tarnish and blacken with the passage of time and this can make teeth look dark and discoloured.

Modern tooth coloured filling materials are very strong, have excellent physical properties and can look absolutely stunning.

Icon - White Spot Treatment

What causes white spots?

White spots are very common and can be caused by a range of factors including:

  • Fluorosis - the occurs when the adult teeth are developing when there is a very high fluoride intake.

  • Decalcification - this is the loss of minerals from the enamel and can occur during fixed brace treatment. This can be the case if there has been a lapse in oral hygiene around the brackets.

  • Molar Incisal Hypoplasia - MIH a tooth condition where enamel and dentine (the outer and middle layers of the tooth) are softer than normal and can lead to dental decay.

  • White spots on adult teeth due to trauma as a baby.

How can White spots be treated with Icon?

Amblecote Dental Care can offer a treatment called Icon. Icon can restore the natural colour of your tooth with no need for surgery. The treatment is not invasive and uses a process of infiltration to blend the white spots in with the rest of the tooth.
